Villanova Just Reached The National Championship After Breaking This Record

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Villanova Wildcats are going to the National Championship for the first time in over 30 years after a record-breaking win at the Final Four.

Nova beat the Oklahoma Sooners 95-51, a 44-point win that gives them the record for the greatest margin of victory in Final Four history.

Their game on Monday night presents a chance to join the last Villanova team to win the championship, the 1985 Wildcats, who won the title game as a no. 8 seed against Georgetown.

As for the record no. 2 seeded Nova broke, that belonged to Princeton, which beat Wichita State by 36 points in a third place game at the 1965 Final Four.

Coach Jay Wright's Wildcats will face the winner of Saturday night's second Final Four game between Syracuse and North Carolina.
