TBT: Chris Childs Punched Out Kobe Bryant 15 Years Ago Today

by Adam Silvers

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers are about to wrap up their worst seasons in franchise history.

Lest we forget it actually used to mean something when these teams met on the court, we take you back to the STAPLES Center on April 2, 2000.

Just to set the stage: The Knicks' starting five that day was Allan Houston, Latrell Sprewell, Patrick Ewing, Charlie Ward and Larry Johnson.

The Lakers began with Shaq, Ron Harper, Kobe Bryant, Glen Rice and AC Green. But, back to the game.

Kobe was coming off a screen and decided to give a little elbow to Chris Childs -- in an effort to create some separation, perhaps?

Well, Chris didn't like that. And after taking a forearm from Kobe following the elbow, Childs nailed him with two quick punches to the chin and throat.

Kobe was shook, and they were both were ejected, fined and then suspended.
