Caitlyn Jenner's Reps Allegedly Exchanged The ESPY Award For PR Plugs

by Adam Pliskin

Caitlyn Jenner gave a moving speech at last night's ESPYs when she accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.

But, it seems there were some backdoor dealings that went into making the moment possible.

Reports surfaced claiming Jenner's PR team insisted she get the award in exchange for the promotion of ESPN and the ESPYs on Jenner's upcoming reality show, "I Am Cait."

When the deal did not go exactly as Jenner's team planned, Jenner's reps allegedly threatened to pull out of the interview on ABC's "20/20" with Diane Sawyer -- since both ABC and ESPN are owned by Disney.

An anonymous source with knowledge of the deal reportedly said,

It was a brilliant move because the executives at ESPN loved the idea, and immediately began making sure it got done... [The rough patch] was ironed out, and ABC owns one of the biggest stories of the year.

While some may take umbrage with these practices, it doesn't take anything away from the touching words shared by Jenner last night.
