Women Wear Underwear From The Past And Realize It's Uncomfortable AF

by Gillian Fuller

Modern-day lingerie is much, much different than the underthings of the past.

Hundreds of years ago, women were expected to don organ-crushing corsets and full petticoats to go about their day-to-day activities.

As the years passed, undergarments became progressively less restrictive, but it took a long time to get to where we are today. The first bra wasn't even invented until 1914!

To demonstrate how much expectations for women have changed over the past several hundred years, the folks at Facts had modern women try on vintage undergarments, with the oldest pieces dating back to the 16th century.

The video is eye-opening. We don't typically think of underwear as a symbol of freedom, but when you see how restrictive (and uncomfortable) historical undergarments were, you'll be so grateful for your t-shirt bra and comfy cotton boy shorts.

And you'll probably walk away with a new perspective on those “trendy” waist trainers everybody seems to be so obsessed with.
