Daycare Shames Phone-Obsessed Parents With Aggressive Note: 'It's Appalling'
Level with me here — do you spend way too much time on your phone?
The thing is, most of us spend too much time mindlessly scrolling through Facebook or Instagram instead of appreciating the crazy, beautiful world around us.
Now, a daycare in Houston, Texas has decided to make a stand.
Fed up with parents staring at their phones like zombies instead of paying attention to their kids, staff at the daycare wrote this wonderful sign, which basically says, “Stop it.”
It's wonderfully passive-aggressive.
And it's summed up by this part, which reads,
We have heard a child say “Mommy, mommy, mommy…” and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their own child. It is appalling.
Yes. Yes yes yes.
This should resonate with anyone who has spent time with friends and family where everyone is checking their phones instead of enjoying each others' company.
It was noticed by mom-of-three Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz, who ironically took a picture on her phone and uploaded it to Facebook, where it has been shared more than a million times.
Mostly by people using their phones to share it, probably.
She told KARE11,
I've seen parents on the phone picking up, but not to the extent that the staff does, I'm guessing. I think that it needed to be said, that it's a good reminder to all of us. The daycare is awesome, they are very loving and obviously have the best interest of the children in mind.
Sure, sometimes you need to use your phone for business or an urgent message, and yes, the daycare's note is a little heavy-handed.
But, moms and dads, your kids are more important than your phone, even if that girl you hated in college has just uploaded a new selfie.
So put the phone down. Just give it a try.
Or next time it could be you that's shamed by a note like this.
