Barista's Reply To Woman Who 'Refused To Be Served By Black Person' Goes Viral

Facebook

Two words and a smile: That's the reaction Josie Ajak recently gave a racist customer, and it's that same reaction that has been earning her an overwhelming level of support from people in her country.

Ajak, who lives in Australia, wrote in a Facebook post,

I have been inundated with so many beautiful messages from both friends and complete strangers that have left me feeling so blessed to be who I am. I never in a million years thought that the response would be so great and encourage you all to continue to spread this message.

It all started with an incident of blatant bias.

Earlier this month, a customer walked into the coffee shop Ajak manages and demanded to be served by a white woman. Ajak responded with those important two words: "That's fine."

Ajak told BuzzFeed News,

She moved aside, waiting for a white person. I told my staff that she is racist and that we won't be serving her, while I continued serving other customers with a smile.

Eventually, the customer left the shop, angry and unattended to. But if a Facebook post from one of Josie's employees is any indication, they aren't at all sad that they missed out on the customer's business.

Jade Arevalo, one of Ajak's employees, wrote,

Josie is one of the most kind and friendly people you could meet but irrespective of her character, she did not deserve to be excluded like this.

Arevalo's post has been flooded with hundreds of comments, while thousands more people have "liked" it.

There even seems to have been a campaign of sorts that has flown under the banner of the hashtag #buyacoffeefromjosie. But Josie isn't keeping all the attention to herself. She has taken in the light she's received and reflected it onto others.

To everybody who has ever been refused service because of their skin colour, this is for you. There is absolutely no room for racism anywhere in the world!

Well said.
