That Awkward Moment When You Accidentally Take Your Tinder Date To A Coup

There are plenty of ways your Tinder date can go terribly, terribly wrong.

His breath can smell; you could start rambling about your dog to fill in the painfully awkward silence; he could look nothing like his pictures; you could choose a Mexican restaurant, only to find out he's deathly allergic to peppers; he could spend the whole time talking about his ex; or a massive snow storm could knock out all power lines and block all major roads, leaving the two of you trapped in a home together with nothing to do but talk for 72 hours straight.

You get the picture. A lot could go wrong.

But, I bet all of your terrible Tinder date stories combined still couldn't compare to that of 20-year-old British nurse, Nicole Graham. Nicole, a self-proclaimed "spontaneous, fun-loving girl," matched with a certified hottie, Phil Stephenson, on Tinder.

Take a look at him for yourself here. He's on the left:

After some fun banter, Phil asked her if she'd like to get drinks on Friday night. Unfortunately, Nicole wasn't going to be able to make it because she had a trip planned to Turkey.

In response to her going away, Phil told Nicole he wished he could come with her.

I'm sure that was just your standard fun flirting, and you probably wouldn't expect it to go anywhere. But the thing is, Nicole actually had a few extra spots on the holiday after her sister and mother were unable to make it due to passport issues.

So, what does a "spontaneous, fun-loving girl" like Nicole do in such a situation? Well, obviously, she invites him to come along.

It just so happens Phil is also pretty spontaneous and fun-loving. He explained that upon receiving the invite, he "didn't think twice" because that's just the sort of guy he is. So, Phil gave her £150 toward the trip, and the two complete strangers decided to meet at the airport to embark upon what would be a week-long first date.

HOW COULD ANYTHING POSSIBLY GO WRONG?!

I know we all want this to be a real-life romantic comedy in which everything just goes so perfectly, and the two of them hate each other at first, but then fall in love. Then, he does something to make her mad, and we think it's over until he makes it up to her in the cutest way possible. Then, they get married in the airport where it all began.

But unfortunately, that was not the case for Phil and Nicole. Ugh.

Well, for starters, in case you haven't been keeping up with the news, now is probably not the best time to be in Turkey. There was an attempted coup on Friday (the day they left for their romantic vacation), leaving the entire nation in unrest.

There have been hundreds of flights cancelled between Britain and Turkey following the coup, and British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has even advised his citizens in Turkey to "stay indoors" and avoid public places until the situation gets controlled.

Yeah... Things aren't looking too pretty.

But, the military coup seemed to be the least of our boy Phil's worries. He explained while there, "Now I am caught up in the unrest -- but if I am honest, I am more scared of her."

Yep, you read that correctly. This date was worse than a military coup and total national unrest. Apparently, Nicole moved a little too fast for Phil.

He said, "I soon realized she wanted us to behave like a married couple when we had only just met." He caught a flight back home after just two days there.

Nicole, who found him "ignorant" since the moment she met him at the airport, was not sad to see him go. She explained she could not be more happy to be alone.

Except, he apparently left her with some unfinished business:

Now he has gone I can enjoy myself — although he has left behind a £60 bar bill and taken my toothpaste.

So much for our dream rom-com.
