This Author Is Giving Away $100 Bills To Strangers For The Best Reason

by Sean Levinson

A best-selling author is currently handing out some extra money he made to pretty much anyone he sees who might need it.

According to USA TODAY, Shea Serrano is a former staff writer of online publication Grantland who recently entered The New York Times Best Sellers list for his October 2015 release "The Rap Year Book."

The writer tweeted yesterday many of his readers also bought his rap-themed bookmarks, earning him a profit of $533.

His family doesn't need that money, however, so he decided to give it to those who likely need it most.

It wasn't long before donations came pouring in so Serrano would have more to give.

The account accumulated $1,400 by this morning.

Serrano began his mission earlier today at a restaurant.

i stopped at this taqueria & gave $100 to a waitress i saw she was very happy & thankful oh great i'm already crying pic.twitter.com/GzNGHWTvcm — Shea Serrano (@SheaSerrano) December 11, 2015

He continued onto a McDonald's drive-thru...

aw man it worked we're 2/2 pic.twitter.com/iLDLcOsWhU — Shea Serrano (@SheaSerrano) December 11, 2015

...before realizing a thrift store customer could probably use some cash as well.

saw this Value Village thrift store so i stopped here let's find someone in here pic.twitter.com/XVFnAYR8tx — Shea Serrano (@SheaSerrano) December 11, 2015

A Jack in the Box employee wasn't able to take the money so Serrano tried a grocery store.

:) just went to the first person I saw -- three down eleven to go pic.twitter.com/erq3kkhY9q — Shea Serrano (@SheaSerrano) December 11, 2015

His next target was a barber shop that he said gives free haircuts to kids at the beginning of the school year. An employee politely declined, but someone nearby accepted the gift.

guy at a jack in the box said he couldn't take it to give it to someone else so i'ma go in this kroger pic.twitter.com/TZcfD7YwFK — Shea Serrano (@SheaSerrano) December 11, 2015

Serrano then approached a man sitting outside on a curb.

got told no thank you by a lady so then i saw this man sitting outside pic.twitter.com/gnwlWD5e2d — Shea Serrano (@SheaSerrano) December 11, 2015

And his latest tweet features someone who was simply in the right place at the right time.

he was waiting for a bus outside of a taco cabana (also: i'm not that great of a cameraman ok) pic.twitter.com/JpA6ZlDQs2 — Shea Serrano (@SheaSerrano) December 11, 2015
