Pink Literally Performed On The Side Of A Building At The AMAs & It Was Nuts

The smartest thing Pink ever did was aerial work at an early stage of her career. While Britney and Xtina were facing down a career of bumping and grinding into their old age, Pink was wowing audiences with circus-like performances at the Grammys. Now she's taken those aerial trick performances to new heights at the 2017 American Music Awards. Pink's performance of "Beautiful Trauma" was downright gravity defying, as she and her harnessed up dancers did their number on the side of the J.W. Marriott next door to the venue where everyone else was merely dancing inside on stage.

The way it was filmed, she appeared to dance upon the side of the building along the windows. For those watching in the audience, it actually was probably very difficult to see what was happening, other than it looking like pink was physically standing sideways on a building. But up close, the aerobatics she and her fellow performers were doing was on par with the sort of thing one might find at a Cirque Du Soleil show. It was certainly head and shoulders above everything else that came before.

Afterwards, the show cut to commercial. No one wanted to follow that.

Let's talk about Pink and her aerial work, which she started doing in the late aughts, first as a way to work out, and then as an idea to add into her stage shows. Doing workouts with aerial silks is something that many who get into hardcore Pilates eventually try their hand at, but few stick with it, and even fewer would go as far as Pink has gone with it.

Pink first started incorporating the work into her shows, with the more simplistic aerial silk routines, in 2010. This was also the point when she began doing these routines at awards show, wowing audiences, and using it as an advert to come to her live show and see the full routine.

By 2014, it had almost become a bit of a joke. Oh look, there's Pink, doing the acrobat routine again.

But seriously, this stuff is impressive. Aerocatic work is no joke. Not only does it keep your body in shape in a way that few workouts can possibly compete with, but it keeps Pink a leg (and an arm and a the rest of her body) up against those pop singers with whom she's competing for an audience.

Which would you rather see? Britney lipsyncing again, or this?

When you put it that way, it's hard to argue. Still, the reason most of her competitors don't do this is because it's dangerous. A fact everyone was reminded of when one of her stunts when wrong during rehearsal in Germany that year. Her harness malfunctioned, and she fell into a steel barricade.

And that's just an act where she's inside an arena. What Pink did tonight was something far beyond that. This was death defying work, done halfway up a hotel building that is something on the order of 29 floors.

Note that at least the rooms Pink herself is dancing on have their curtains drawn. Are there guests actually inside? Because if so, they just missed what might have been the view of a lifetime, seeing the performance from the side and up close.... or actually underneath.

Fans were ecstatic to see her pull it off.

For many this was *the* performance of the night.

Oh and one other thing....

Did we mention she was actually singing? Now, I assume the vocals we heard at home on TV were prerecorded simply because the acoustics of performing at 14 floors up on the side of a building in the middle of November in LA would simply not allow for anything else. But one could clearly tell that even if we at home didn't heard her vocals, she was actually singing while doing all that.

Standing ovations, please. Pink deserves them.
