This Is What Happens When 'Real Men' Pose As Underwear Models (Photos)

by Alexia LaFata

Lots of people falsely believe that the patriarchy only hurts women and that feminism is some kind of fight against men.

What most people don't know is that the patriarchy and our existing male-dominated society hurts men, too.

While women are expected to take a backseat to men, men are held to other impossible masculine "Be a man!" standards, such as not "being a pussy," having to hide their emotions, and being the best at all times (or risk failure -- there is no middle ground for a man).

Men, like women, are even subject to beauty standards. It's true that women are more likely to be seen as sexual objects in advertising, but that doesn't mean men don't sometimes feel pressure to adhere to a "masculine" physical standard of toned muscles and chiseled abs.

These ads show "real men" posing as male models in underwear ads, and they seriously look great.

It's important that we don't forget that men, albeit a small percentage of them, also experience body image issues and suffer from anorexia.

Hopefully, in the near future, we'll see more advertisements like these that depict beauty (of both genders) in all shapes and sizes.
