Kind Teen Made Mom Stop Car So He Could Shovel Snow For Elderly Man

by Emily Arata

When Tommy Adams asked his mom to stop the car on the way home from the DMV, giving up free time didn't even cross his mind.

His only thought was for an elderly man struggling to shovel snow out of his driveway.

On Wednesday, WTVR reported the Nottoway County, Virginia high school senior hopped out of mom Teresa's vehicle after noticing a senior citizen with a walker standing in his driveway.

In an attempt to push snow from the street, the area's plows unwittingly dumped feet of powder on the man's property.

Grabbing a shovel, Tommy reportedly spent the next 15 minutes clearing a path through the snow bank.

The teen told WTVR he'd forgotten to ask the old man's name, but said the man was openly grateful for the help.

Tommy remembered,

[The man] was relieved; he looked tired. I told him to get back into his car because it was cold. Other people who saw him in the snow should have had the decency to stop.

He added,

I try to do good for the elderly because one day I may need help, too.

As Tommy shoveled away, Teresa snapped a photo of her son's act of neighborliness.

She admitted to tearing up a little while watching a young person take the initiative to aid a senior citizen.

Tommy is a very special kind of teenager.
