This Professor Had The Best Reaction To A Baby Crying During His Class

by Gillian Fuller

The inspiring story behind this now-viral photo of a professor holding a baby while lecturing will remind you, for as much evil there is in this world, there is good to silence it.

The photo shows Hebrew University professor Dr. Sydney Engelberg holding a student's child while teaching.

Originally posted to Facebook by Dr. Engelberg's daughter, Sarit Fishbaine, the heartwarming moment arose when “a baby son of one of the students who attends the class started crying,” as Fishbaine explains.

She told Buzzfeed News her father teaches in the master's degree program and often has adult students. He encourages them to bring their children to class if they don't have the means to hire babysitters.

She said,

[He] loves kids and loves babies, he has five grandchildren... He's the one that's in motion, he's walking around the class. So he just takes the baby and continues teaching.

She added it's “not unusual” for her 67-year-old father to do something like this.

After the photo went viral on Facebook, another student in the class posted the image to Imgur, corroborating Fishbaine's story. Since then, the photo has been viewed over a million times, and thousands of commenters praised Dr. Engelberg's inspirational, kind behavior.

Fishbaine says her father doesn't understand what the big deal is. She said,

The way he sees the concept of getting education is not only learning the dry facts… but also learning values. And that's the very important message that my dad wants to endow to the world.

I'd say his mission was more than successful.
