President Obama Gives Powerful Anti-Violence PSA During The Grammys (Video)

by Emily Arata

While the rest of America tweeted about Rihanna's bath pouf dress and Sam Smith's award sweep, President Obama used the Grammys to highlight a more important cause.

During a video segment, Obama delivered a heartfelt message about ending sexual violence and shared the newest iteration of his celebrity-backed It's On Us campaign, which seeks to put a stop to abuse and rape.

Of course, there's a difference between a publicity campaign and real life, as noted by The Cut.

Even as Obama preached respect, infamous domestic abuser Chris Brown enjoyed three Grammy nominations and a seat near his former victim, Rihanna, who was reportedly missing from the audience during the PSA.

If award shows are about to become the new venue for change, The Recording Academy will have to start practicing what it very publicly preaches.
