The Porn Industry Claims It's So Safe It Doesn't Need Condoms

While the rest of the country is deciding who to vote for in this presidential election, voters in LA County, California have another issue that needs immediate attention: to vote for or against Measure B, a California health officials and the Aids Healthcare Foundation sponsored initiative that will require porn producers to get a permit before they do any shooting.

The permit fee would pay for random inspections that would ensure that porn actors are wearing condoms while they shoot- all this in an effort to reduce the spreading of AIDS and other STDs. However, a recent profile from the New York Times shows that porn producers are already taking sufficient measures in ensuring their actors’ safety.

Before starting on a shoot, the actors must each show the producer an email from a lab proving that they test negative for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and H.I.V.. The porn producer then checks an industry database to make sure that those results are not more than 15 days old. After all of this, as a last measure, the producer will inspect each actor/actress for any signs of STDs.

“I don’t think there’s any question that it works,” Canadian AIDS specialist Dr. Allan Ronald told the Times. “I’m a little uncomfortable, because it’s giving the wrong message — that you can have multiple sex partners without condoms — but I can’t say it doesn’t work.”
