The World's Oldest Twins Are 103 And Let Nothing Separate Them

by Emily Arata

The oldest twin sisters in the United Kingdom have lived side by side and shopped for matching outfits for the past 103 years.

Wales Online reports Glenys Thomas and Florence Davies – born in 1911 – have spent their entire lives in the tiny town of Abertridwr, Wales. The pair reportedly even remembers the arrival of the town's first public bus.

Gwenda Stacey, Thomas's 65-year-old daughter, told the Daily Mail a life filled with small pleasures is the cause of the sisters' long, healthy existence. She said,

They have lived a simple life. Neither Mam or Aunty Flo can drive. They never went abroad. But they were always happiest together.

Stacey added,

The whole family's social life was centered around their church and their community. You had to stay local in those days because it was so hard to get around.

Indeed, Thomas and Davies loved living close to one another -- so close, in fact, they bought houses next door.

Even now, the sisters reside in a pair of attached apartments at Abermill Care Home.

The two kitchens, linked by a doorway, were connected especially for Thomas and Davies.

Although the twins lived without aid well into their 90s, old age-related aches and dementia finally caught up with them.

Surrounded by a brood of five children, 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, they are content.

At age 7, the pair knew only the simple life.

All but one of the twins' offspring belongs to Davies, shown here at 25. Her husband, John Davies, died at just 48 years old.

Thomas married twice: first to William Scrivens, who died at 67. They adopted daughter Stacey together.

According to the Daily Mail, Thomas, seen here at 21, and her sister worked as maids for the town's wealthier families.

Davies and her sister shared a room in their family home until marriage.

At 68, the sisters still enjoyed shopping for fashionable outfits and spending time with their children.

In a birthday snap taken just two years later, the beaming twins abandoned matching outfits in favor of coordinated color palettes.

Shortly after the sisters' 103rd birthday, they were unofficially declared the oldest twins in the UK.
