Mom Arrested After Making Daughter Wear A Shirt About Her Bad Grades

by Emily Arata

Statement t-shirts are well and good until they advertise abuse.

A Spring Hill, Florida mother, Melany Joyce Alexander, has been charged with child abuse after allegedly sending her daughter to middle school covered in visible bruises and wearing a t-shirt advertising her bad grades.

NBC Miami reports on Friday, Alexander's daughter reportedly arrived at school in a hand-decorated t-shirt that read,

My name is [redacted]. I currently have all F's in all of my classes.

It went on to explain the girl had been forbidden from having friends, boyfriends or treats until her grades went up to Cs, continuing,

So back OFF before I get another good WOOPIN like I got last night.

Administrators noted the child, who was given a different shirt to wear, bore evidence of belt buckle marks and bruising.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis told WFLA,

She was hit with a belt all over her body basically from the neck to the legs and it did leave pretty substantial marks. This wasn't a spank you with the hand that maybe you got when you were small on our behinds. This [sic] person was obviously very upset.

Alexander was promptly arrested and has been released on a bond of $2,500.

BuzzFeed reports this isn't Alexander's first trip to jail, either. In 2011, she was arrested for stalking a couple and their family and stuffing their mailbox with red meat before running it over.

At the time of publication, Alexander has been forbidden from contacting her daughter.

Alexander allegedly forced her daughter to wear a hand-decorated t-shirt to school.

It advertised the West Hernando middle schooler's bad grades and threatened anyone who would be friends with the girl.

Alexander has a lot of explaining to do.
