Fifty Shades Of Swipe: Whiplr Is The Tinder For The BDSM Community

by Emily Arata

If “Fifty Shades of Grey” inspired you, don't stop there.

A newly released dating app called Whiplr plays off the success of E.L. James' steamy novels and the new film adaptation, inviting users to share their fetishes or get kinky with others.

Prospective users first make profiles, complete with their body measurements and fetish categories. Although, as Refinery29 points out, options like "fashion" and "sounds" are a little vague.

To access more fetishes, the app offers a paid premium "Dekadom" level.

The app enables BDSM-seekers to filter potential matches by distance, kink or experience, if you so choose, sorting the Christian Greys from the innocent Anastasia Steeles. It's a format common to many modern dating tools.

Unlike Tinder and its fellows, however, Whiplr provides access to an international calendar, showing sexy events open to all.

And in case your chats with matches get stale, Whiplr also includes animations called "Sparks," which help explain what you're feeling.

If you go on a date and don't enjoy it, the app provides a private digital notepad in which you can record things you didn't like about the play.

It's an interesting element to the app since the BDSM community prides itself on communication and honesty between partners.

The tool is an indication, for all its campy advertising, Whiplr might be here to stay. It's taking the kink community seriously.

Whiplr is a new kind of dating app available for Android and iOS.

Chat or call anyone, even couples.

Just imagine what might have happened if Anastasia Steele met Christian Grey while she was wearing red suede stilettos.
