Bride Was Beaten After The Wedding When Groom Couldn't Remove Her Gown

by Emily Arata

When Amy Dawson purchased a wedding dress with delicate buttons, she didn't know the very same gown would play a role in her escape from domestic violence.

Daily Mail reports Gavin Golightly, 22-year-old Dawson's partner and father of her child, pled guilty to a charge of "assault causing actual bodily harm" after beating his new wife on their wedding night.

The West Rainton, England bride told the Sunderland Echo 29-year-old Golightly was once kind and respectful, but became jealous and violent after the birth of their child.

And on the night of their August wedding, Dawson handed her new husband a crochet hook to undo the buttons on her white dress.

It was then Golightly, who claims he was drugged and cannot remember the night, reportedly became violent, tackling his wife and punching her.

Dawson, who reportedly suffered a cut above her eyebrow and bruising to her face, said,

After the attack, [Golightly] left the room and I tried to escape, but he came back in and continued to beat me... Eventually, I escaped and found a hotel porter, who called the police.

The beautiful bride, pictured below, had no idea how her wedding would end.

Golightly was sentenced to pay a $306 fine (£200) to Dawson, $222 in other fines and will complete two years of supervised community service. Dawson, however, reportedly feels the punishment is too lenient.

The young mother, who is continuing the process of obtaining a degree in accounting, escaped the madness of abuse. She filed for divorce and obtained a restraining order against her former partner.

She's taking steps to protect both herself and her child from the man who turned his back on them.
