Upsetting Video Shows Dad Leaving 5-Year-Old Daughter Outside To Freeze

FOX 13 News

Distressing CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment a father left his daughter outside a college campus at 5 am in near freezing conditions in Utah.

The 5-year-old girl was dumped at Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College in Ogden with nothing more than a blanket in temperatures around 30 degrees.

She was left screaming for her dad and wasn't found until 7:30 am by campus security.

Her mother told Fox 13 News,

She said she got scared. She was yelling, 'Daddy!' but no one was there [...] She said she just kind of had her blanket and waited until daylight.

The mom added the girl's father "told her to shut up, and lay down and go to sleep."

She stayed in the same spot until daylight, as instructed by her dad. Footage shows her lying down and throwing the blanket over her entire body.

Fred Frazier, security manager for the school, said the girl ran up to a security guard, tripped and grazed her knee. She was visibly upset.

He said,

It was heartbreaking for him. To see a little girl running alone by herself. That's when he got very concerned, and she was shivering and cold.

Ogden Police has launched an investigation with childcare services.

As of Saturday, a spokesperson said the force is waiting to question the dad.

He could be charged with felony child abandonment or abuse.

Lieutenant Tim Scott with the Ogden Police Department said,

We don't know really what purpose he'd take the child, if there was a drug-induced psychosis. Right now, we're waiting to interview the father.

The mom, who has not spoken with the dad since the incident, has previously tried to get a protective order against him, but failed.
