Apple Made History By Selling 10 Million iPhone 6 And iPhone 6 Pluses This Weekend

by John Haltiwanger

Apple just had its biggest opening weekend in history for the iPhone, with 10 million iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus smartphones sold.

Last year Apple sold around 9 million phones, but that included both the 5s and the 5c.

10 million new iPhones sounds just a bit more than 9 million from last year but remember that included $99 5C. This year Apple made $$$$. — Farhad Manjoo (@fmanjoo) September 22, 2014
Apple sold a WHOPPING 10 million iPhones this weekend. For comparison, the iPhone 5 sold "just" 5 million in its first weekend. — Ben Parr (@benparr) September 22, 2014

It seems that people literally went insane over this new iPhone, so these numbers aren't surprising.

Apple is set to make boatloads of money off this new device. The iPhone 6 has gone above and beyond many predictions surrounding sales.

Yet, the record sales are not that surprising. Historically, Apple has increased iPhone sales every time it has released a new model.

Once again, Apple has outdone itself and made history.

While some analysts predicted as many as 12 to 15 million iPhone 6s would be sold, this certainly isn't a disappointing outcome.
