A Diverse Demonstration: NYC Protests Span Across Generation And Race (Video)

by John Haltiwanger

Over the past two weeks or so, major cities across the nation have erupted in protest following controversial decisions surrounding the cases of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

This continued Thursday night as thousands of people took to the streets of New York City to express their discontent with the NYPD and the criminal justice system in general.

Elite Daily hit the pavement last night in Manhattan to follow the protestors as they marched throughout the city. It was an emotional and intense evening, but also quite inspiring.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the the entire experience was the sheer amount of diversity amongst the protestors. They were young and old, black and white, gay and straight, blue collar and white collar. There were babies, toddlers, teens, young parents, old parents, grandparents and senior citizens.

All of these people came together to demonstrate against what many view as an unequal and unjust system. The overall sentiment throughout the evening was one of solidarity and peace.

It was evident that all the people on the streets knew they were part of something that reaches far beyond the boundaries of New York City. Simply put, the protestors could sense that they were engaged in the very act of making history.
