This Nurse Lost Her License After Taking A Photo Of A Patient's Penis
A New York nurse turned in her medical license after pleading guilty to taking a photo of a patient's penis and filming another patient's rectum.
According to New York Daily News, the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office began investigating 27-year-old Kristen Johnson after co-workers at State University of New York Upstate University Hospital complained about her sending text messages containing inappropriate images of patients.
Johnson was arrested in May 2015 after a nine-month investigation and charged with two felony counts of unlawful surveillance and a misdemeanor of disseminating unlawful surveillance, according to Daily Mail.
Authorities determined Johnson took a photo of a patient's penis while he was unconscious. Johnson also reportedly used her iPhone 5 to film a nurse cleaning a female patient's gastrointestinal blood clot; she then sent the video to the nurse who treated the woman, Daily Mail reports.
The photo of the man's penis and the video, which showed the female patient's rectum, were reportedly found on Johnson's laptop.
In a statement, Onondaga County District Attorney William J. Fitzpatrick said,
Despite what certain people seem to think, it is a crime in the state of New York to view, broadcast or record images of another person's intimate body parts, surreptitiously.
Johnson struck a plea deal in which the felony charges were dropped.
She pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge in November and agreed to give up her nursing license and spend three years on probation.
Johnson's crimes were since revealed to the patients involved as well as their families.
