People Are Celebrating The Heroic Police Dog Killed In The Paris Raid

by Sean Levinson

Tributes poured out for the police dog killed by a terror suspect earlier today.

In this morning's raid of a Paris apartment where the alleged mastermind of the Paris massacre, 27-year-old Abdelhamid Abaaoud, was believed to be hiding, two suspects were killed and seven more were arrested.

According to Daily Mail, the first member of the police force to enter the Saint-Denis dwelling was a 7-year-old Belgian Shepherd named Diesel.

The highly-decorated dog was instructed to use her keen sense of smell to detect explosive traps.

But shortly after Diesel entered the apartment, a woman emerged and reportedly detonated a suicide vest, killing the beloved dog.

Once the Twitterverse learned of her death, #RIPDiesel and #JeSuisChien ("I Am Dog") began to trend as users around the world honored the fallen hero.

Diesel's sacrifice allowed all officers to avoid serious injuries.

Her killer is thought to have been Abaaoud's cousin.

French police explained how important dogs like Diesel are...

While other canines saluted her bravery...

...and everyone expressed pain in losing such a champion of the canine species.

The identities of the captured and killed suspects are yet to be revealed.
