Co-Pilot Crushes Spring Break Dreams By Allegedly Showing Up To Work Drunk

Plenty of spring breaks have been ruined by alcohol... but not like this.

Passengers aboard an American Airlines flight in Detroit on Saturday -- including a group of students en route to spring break -- watched their co-pilot get arrested right on the tarmac after failing a Breathalyzer test, reports say.

A TSA agent at Detroit Metropolitan Airport suspected something and alerted airport police, who arrived just moments before the flight was scheduled to depart for Philadelphia, according to the Washington Post. The co-pilot had reportedly made it all the way to the cockpit.

The co-pilot, who has not been identified, reportedly failed a second sobriety test after his arrest, and the flight was canceled.

American Airlines said in a statement,

This is a serious matter and we are assisting local law enforcement and the Federal Aviation Administration with the investigation. We will handle this matter appropriately as the safety and care of our customers and employees is our highest priority.

The spring breakers were able to reschedule their flight, but the most important thing is that this was handled before any lives were put in danger.

And who knows, maybe they learned a valuable lesson about drinking responsibly before their big trip.
