Knowing What He Wants: What Do Gen-Y Men Consider The New 'Hot'?

by John Picciuto

It's almost 2014, and I’m left wondering what “hot” means anymore when it comes to a woman. What are guys attracted to in this generation? What turns us on? Is it still the “Baywatch” version of Pam Anderson? Are we still turned on by big-breasted women, running down the beach in slow motion? Is it a tiny Miranda Kerr sauntering down a runway?

What is it that makes men tick nowadays? I feel like as I've gotten older I have split significantly from what I used to find appealing, or what I considered to be “hot” in a woman.

I may only be 27, but it has come to my attention that the definition of hot has changed drastically from what I used to know.

Don't get me wrong, there are certainly plenty of guys out there who are strictly looking for big tits, or fat butts, and at times, I have fallen deeply into both of these categories. But possessing either of those traits doesn't necessarily define what men of Gen-Y now consider hot. I wonder what it is that truly defines sexy, today.

I'm not sure if you have noticed, but there has been this nerdy/hot hipster movement going on among Gen-Y women. You’ll see a lot of these women wearing Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses as regular reading glasses.

I'll be the first to admit I find this look crazy hot. Hook me up with Zooey Deschanel, and I'm in heaven. However, I think that might say more of my own personal taste than that of Gen-Y men as a whole, or perhaps it reflects the role that Hollywood continues to play in defining beauty.

I think, for guys in general, it's important for women to have their own style and simply radiate confidence in that style. The new hot might not necessarily be described by a body type, or style, but rather, by a girl who's confident in her own skin. Confidence will always be sexy.

Personally, I'm looking for the girl who is equally sexy in sweatpants as she is in her tight dress out at the club. Find me someone who's down to drink some beers wearing a hockey jersey and boy shorts and I very well may propose on the spot.

Give me a girl who's not just down to f*ck (which is awesome), but can also carry on a conversation about ANYTHING that is going on in the world. (Tangent: Listen, don't take that remark as remotely sexist. There are an equally proportionate amount of men in the world who have no clue of current events. Relax.)

The point I'm trying to make is that, I think our dear friend Ludacris said it best. All men are looking for a "lady in the street, but a freak in the bed." Or as I've heard it said, “a Times New Roman on the streets and a wingdings in the sheets."

So what is the new hot? Honestly, I don't think it's necessarily a type; it's not a body style; it's not a hair color, or a bra size. I feel like the new hot is a girl who's got a complete package. Men search for women that immediately alter the things he used to consider his type.

A guy wants a girl to take home to mom, but while at the dinner table with his family, she's rubbing his thigh under the table. Every guy wants 100 percent sexy, yet 100 percent non-skank, and unfortunately, this is difficult to find. There is a tough distinction to be made here.

Every guy has a type, or some traits they find attractive, just as women do. I think the new hot might be defined in the same ways it always has been. It's not just about a great body, or a beautiful face; it's about finding the girl that changes your perceptions of what you previously found sexy.

The one who changes all of your preconceived notions about what it is you look for in a woman. She might be the librarian, the athlete, or maybe the Asian girl riding the bus next to you. At the end of the day, every guy has his own tendencies and his own type. I just think that, for me, it goes way beyond her running slowly down a beach in a red one piece.
