The Lies We Need To Stop Telling Ourselves

People have terrible habits of making excuses to justify certain behaviors. These lies prevent ourselves from reaching our full potential since they hinder progression in life. The only thing standing between you and your goals are the excuses you keep making.

If people spent half as much time working hard as they did making excuses the results would be mindblowing. Excuses are easy because they are a way to stay comfortable where you are. There is now risk, yet without risk there is no reward.

We need to stop making explanations and start making adjustments. You need to have faith in yourself and your beliefs in order to prosper in life.

I Don’t Have Enough Time

I understand you work a heavily demanding job but there’s always time. We all have the same amount of hours in any given day so why does someone else have time and you don’t? Figure out what you need to get done and do it. If you don’t have time to hit the gym, make the time.

Wake up early, go to bed late, whatever it takes. Instead of complaining and lamenting about how little time you have, go look at your calendar and make a schedule.

I’ll Get to That Later

No you won’t; if it were important enough to you, you would be doing it right now. Procrastination is the enemy of success. Remember, never put off till tomorrow what may be done today!

Telling Yourself You Don’t Give a F*ck When You Do, and Telling Yourself You Do Give a F*ck When You Don’t

How many times has a partner asked “Are you okay” for you to only respond “Nothing, I’m Fine” when you clearly are far from fine. WHY do people that? Own up to your sh*t when something is bothering you.

How many times has a partner ever done something minimal that annoyed you that you blew out of proportion simply for the sake of arguing? I do this allllllll the time, neither of which is okay. We need to be straight up with our emotions and stop playing games.

As Long as My Job Pays Well It’s Okay to Hate It

Happiness is central to a prosperous life. Money is not sufficient enough to make any person happy. Staying at a job you detest means you don’t have your heart in it and therefore there will be no dedication, commitment, or passion. Success comes easiest to those who adore their jobs so advance your skills and move onto something you love.

I’ve Been Wanting This Item For So Long, It Was a Good Deal, So I Had to Buy It

I have this conversation with myself at least once a week. Just because something you have desired is on sale does not justify buying it if you still cannot afford it. The only time it is justified is if you specifically saved up for it or have the extra money to spend. The amount of time you’ve wanted something doesn’t justify when you get it.

My Failed Relationships Were a Waste of Time

As the saying goes “don't regret because at that time it was exactly what you wanted.” Your failed relationships are not a waste of time because they taught you valuable lessons that could only be gained through experience. You need to learn from past mistakes so that you do not repeat them in the future.

People Actually Care About Your Day

When someone asks you how your day was they don’t really want an elaborate answer. A simple, “it was fine” will suffice. People are too wrapped up in their own problems to actually care about the salad you ate for lunch or the rude tone your boss spoke to you in.

I Don’t Need to Expand My Circle of Friends

As you get older your persona begins to change and therefore you may not have the same things in common with your friends as you used to. As you begin to grow you need to surround yourself with others who motivate you. In situations like this it’s helpful to expand your circle.

My Past is Completely Indicative of My Future

This could not be further from the truth. Your mind creates your present, what you think and only what you think is real. If you don’t think something then it is no longer in your existence. Your past is not an indicator of your future unless you let it be. If you have the core belief you can overcome your past then with awareness and effort you can.

Your Dreams are too Unrealistic

People achieve impossible things on a daily basis despite age, race or societal condition. Recognize your goal and figure out what it will take to achieve it, then GO DO IT. Stop waiting for permission because you are never going to get it. Only you can make your dreams come true.
