To My Unborn Newphew: Life's Secrets

by Luis A. Navia

Dear You,

Congratulations! You’ve overcome the greatest obstacle in life: being created. We don’t know each other yet, but I just found out that you are being brought into existence. I promise you, we will get to know each other and I’ll be there for you – unconditionally. My name is Luis A. Navia Mejia, your mother’s (wow), my sister’s, first brother.

First, I would like to let you know that you are coming into this world with the greatest blessing that God could provide you: amazing parents.

Your mom will be tough on you, but that’s because she loves and wants the best for you. Listen to her, always. She’s an amazing human being who has endured and excelled in many aspects of life. She’s my hero.

Well, enough about her; you’ll have a lifetime to get to know her. If you are lucky enough to be anything like your parents, then you’re already ahead of the game.

I want to take this time to let you in on a couple of secrets I’ve learned about life, which I am sure you and I will get to share with each other when the time comes.

The world is yours for the making.

It’s a beautiful place, the world. You’ll encounter many new experiences, people and places that will shape who you will become.

The beauty of it all is that this world and this life are both yours to create. Everything in this world is possible, ask your mom; we have a couple experiences in this sector. Believe in your dreams because I do as well.

Right now, you’re not even born yet, and all those who surround you, love you. My advice to you is love and be loved. Love your family, love God and love yourself. Everything that you do, no matter how small or big, do it with love.

People may not understand you, but the results will show it. You’ll always be loved. Learn to love new experiences: dance in the rain, play your favorite sport and study well.

Dream big and dream often. If you can, dream with your eyes open, that’s when the secret of life and its beauty are bestowed upon you.

Always believe in your dreams; between you and me, believing in other people's dreams is pretty amazing as well.

Fight for the best. Earn it. However, I can help shape or guide your education, your parents permitting.

Education, whether formal, unconventional or guerrilla-style, will open all the opportunities in the world for you. It’ll allow you to create value, impact people and shape a generation.

Always have faith in your life. Especially in God. Whichever faith is bestowed upon you, believe in God.

Trust him and yield him your life, for he has great plans for you. Experience this journey for yourself, but if you ever have any questions, I’ll be here for you to guide you in the right direction.

We don’t know each other yet, but I am excited to meet you and get to know you. You’ll be my first nephew/niece. This is just a small welcome to world; we’ll have a lifetime ahead of us. I love you with all my heart! Remember, the world is yours.

Awaiting [im]patiently for your arrival, Your uncle,

Luis A. Navia
