Being Raw Is Being Real: Why You Should Unapologetically Be Yourself

Being raw is being real, and real people are hard to come by since we live in a society that adores conformity. People seem to dress, act and even feel the same to fit in.

I’ll never be able to wrap my head around that concept. Sure, fitting in gives you the “in” with different circles and can give you a sense of belonging, but it is not real. If you are faking who you are, then the relationships you create in that state will be just as fake.

That seems like energy wasted on negativity, when you can use it for positivity. It is possible to find people with whom you can genuinely enjoy being free. But, it all starts with being honest with yourself.

Don’t be afraid of being yourself or exploring until you find peace within yourself. Once you feel comfortable in your skin, share it with others, unapologetically.

With all the pressures from the media and social media, it can be hard to find confidence in just being you. We see all these “cool” people and think, “Oh, I can be like that.” Well, don’t be like that. Be yourself.

Of course, these outlets are great areas for inspiration, but there is a difference between being inspired and being just like someone else. Those who inspire others are people who are themselves. Why not try to be an inspiration to others?

As a generation, we spend a vast amount of time on our social media platforms, day-in and day-out. People spend more time worrying about how many “likes” their posts will get rather than realizing it does not matter, at all.

The validation people seek to receive from social media is unhealthy; the only acceptance that is important is our own and that which comes from the people we love in our lives, not the followers.

It’s human nature to want to be accepted by others, but trying to receive it through posting pictures or statuses that don't reflect who you are as a person isn’t the way to go about it.

If you are passionate about something, share it through your platforms to show the people in your life what you love. They’ll appreciate you doing things that aren’t fake. It is easy to tell if a person is truly enjoying something, or just doing it because everyone else is.

Being real with yourself leads you to create stronger bonds with others, as well. Not only are you being true in your actions, but also in your emotions. When we are able to open up emotionally to others and truly let them in, it creates a deeper connection.

I feel that being entirely open emotionally is more powerful than doing so physically. It is easy to take off your clothes, but expressing your emotions requires more courage and trust. Of course, it isn’t always easy to express ourselves, but that’s what makes us human.

We have a lot of complex emotions that are hard to control, or to even recognize. The more accepting we are of simply being human, the easier it is for us to accept our emotions and others, too.

When we find love in ourselves and project it out into the universe and those around us, that’s being raw.

Discover who you are as a person and share it with others fearlessly. We all need to embrace who we are and not try to be someone else. Each of us exists for a reason — why would we waste our time trying to be something else?
