Life is the ultimate journey. The way we live our life is an expression of our self and our ideals. It is imperative that we make the most of the opportunities that we are given because they are limited. The successful make a habit of putting themselves in positions to succeed. There is no reason why you should just be sitting back and letting life pass you by.

Make the most of every opportunity you have, this is what will separate you from the betas of the world. Who wants to be remembered as a regular person anyway? Here are the 10 traits that will guarantee your success:

You must be self-sacrificing:

It's always great when you are able to put your team first. It makes working with you a breeze and it shows that you are not only self-interested, but you like to see those around you do well for themselves. This helps you develop a strong team and concentrates your energy on making the whole team successful rather than just yourself.

All great leaders know that if their team succeeds, so will they. A strong team also makes it easier to pitch your services to clients as they will feel you can give them proper attention and great service. In order to make money you must keep your clients satisfied and sometimes this requires a group effort.

Develop a sense of reliability:

The biggest question clients ask themselves before doing business with you is: "Is he/she reliable?" or "Can he/she be counted on to get the job done?" You always want your clients to be comfortable knowing that they can rely on you to get the job done. In order to do this, you must be solution-driven. Your clients understand that problems will arise, but it is your ability to come up with solutions to these issues rather than mope around that will make you reliable.

Your clients don't want excuses or else they would have never trusted you with their business in the first place. There are no excuses when it comes to failing, so don't even bother. Do the best you can to make those around you feel comfortable working with you. At the end of the day, it's either you can or cannot produce -- no excuses.

Have empathy toward your clients:

Your ability to relate to your clients is a crucial factor in their willingness to do business with you. In order to properly secure their business, you must understand where they are coming from. How you deliver your message is just as important as you delivering on your promises.

Clients want to deal with someone who understands their problems and can sympathize with them. Being able to show empathy for people's situations is half the battle and it will show your clients that you are reliable.

You must have the proper initiative to get things done:

In order to be a formidable leader, you must have initiative. Since you are the one responsible for running the show, it is important that you step forward with a firm step. No one wants to deal with someone who constantly second guesses themselves. There is nothing wrong with taking steps back in order to make sure that you have everything in order, but it becomes a problem when you constantly second guess yourself. It shows a sense of weakness.

No one wants to work with someone who is weak. This makes you seem unreliable and it puts a sense of doubt in the minds of your clients, which is a big no-no in the business world. When it comes to completing your tasks, you must think outside the box and be fearless. You must be the one to set the tone because everyone is looking for your lead.

Build a sense of loyalty:

Loyalty is the foundation that fosters fruitful and timeless business relationships. No one wants to work with someone who is untrustworthy. If you are always trying to one up people and skimp them on your promises, eventually you will gain such a reputation in the industry. No one wants to work with someone they can't trust.

Once you have lost someone's trust, it is difficult, even nearly impossible, to gain it back. Building relationships with your employees and customers on the foundation of loyalty is crucial. This will take some time, but in the long run, your patience and good virtue will produce a fruitful business relationship that will last a long time.

Be decisive:

In your business ventures, you will always be stuck with the responsibility of making decisions. Sometimes this may require you to make decisions on subjects you are not fully informed on. Eventually you will have to choose a path and, no matter what, meeting deadlines is crucial. In order to properly meet deadlines, being decisive is a critical factor.

No one wants to deal with someone who lacks the ability to make decisions when things get rough. Life is not a smooth ride and you will be forced to make tough decisions in times of pressure. Your ability to do this well will set you apart from your competition and allow you to keep many of your clients. They wouldn't need your services if they understood what they were doing. You are the expert, so act like it.

Do not let up, build your endurance:

Although it may sound like a cliché: life is not a race, it is a marathon. Nothing comes instantly and everything takes time. When things go wrong, which is highly likely, it is your ability to endure and move forward that will distinguish you from the people around you. Your team may be struggling, but it is your job to be unfazed and keep them moving forward.

If you are easily frustrated and discouraged, then those following your lead will be as well. You can't show signs of weakness. Everyone is going through something, but the ability to endure and get through it is what separates the alphas from the betas.

Be courageous and take calculated risks:

Courage is what allows us to take on tasks that may seem overwhelming to the average Joe. Your innate ability to understand risk and know when to gamble will allow for success. It takes courage to lead your people through rough times. Under no circumstance should you be afraid of problems. Look forward to difficulties as they will allow for the best attitude to deal with issues.

Show that you are passionate about your work:

Enthusiasm and passion are what drive the greats. If you are not passionate about your work, then why are you involved with it? It's not fun working on something you don't enjoy. You are also doing a disservice to your clients as you are not putting in your maximum effort working on projects you don't enjoy.

Being passionate about your work is crucial to your clients. Make them feel that you love what you are doing and that it is actually enjoyable rather than a burden. Work on what you love and the money will follow. Nothing boosts efficiency more than someone working on something they enjoy.

Expertise in your field is a necessity:

Knowledge is not only a powerful tool, it is what makes life worth living. Life is full of experiences that we can learn and use in our everyday endeavors. We are constantly learning; however, it is best if you learn a particular skill and learn it well. No need to to guess when it comes to problems, you want to have the answers. No client wants to work with someone who seems to know what they are doing.

If you are not hungry for knowledge then you are not living life properly. Things must fascinate you if you wish to be passionate about anything.
