Adorable Dog Competes With Human Baby For Food And Says 'Mama' First (Video)

by Taylor Ortega

Utah is home to many of our nation's most mystical treasures, including the 2002 Winter Olympics, the set of Bon Jovi's “Blaze of Glory” music video and, now, a talking dog named Patches.

Several months ago, an Australian Shepherd dog was given the opportunity to compete against its tiny human sibling, Samuel Diaz-Giovanini, for a scrap of food, and the effort was documented for our entertainment.

In the video, Samuel's mother tries to get him to say “mama” as she dangles a bite of takeout as bait.

Not one to miss out on a treat, Patches starts howling and, after less than 20 seconds, appears to clearly pronounce the word.

Samuel does not look happy with Patches when he realizes he has been defeated by a member of a species typically known more for drinking out of toilets than addressing their caregivers in English.

Samuel's mother, Andrea, reportedly sent the clip to "America's Funniest Home Videos," which posted it to its YouTube in February.

Andrea claims "AFV" since reached out to her about the possibility of appearing on the show thanks to the staggering number of views (over 2.5 million) the video garnered, KSL reports.

In the event the Diaz-Giovanini family does make it onto the show, it is nice to know Patches is already a pro in the face of competition.
