This New Technique Makes It Possible For Brunettes To Get Rainbow Hair (Photos)

Having a head full of gorgeous rainbow-streaked strands is pretty awesome.

But if you happen to have brown hair, you know achieving this look isn't exactly easy. In fact, it's actually a huge pain in the ass.

Going from dark to colored hair is a multistep process that involves lightening your locks before you can even start to play around with different hues and hair dyes.

Plus, the whole coloring process can also be pretty damaging to your magnificent mane.

But now, there's a new hair trend called "oil slick" that will let you add some cool colors to your hairdo without all the hassle. This new coloring technique gives darker locks iridescent hues similar to the shiny colors in oil spills.

In a recent interview, colorist Aura Friedman told POPSUGAR,

I've been trying to recreate gasoline or oil when it's on the ground and it rains. I find that when you take a dark purple and a dark green and layer them one on top of the other, you end up with this iridescent feeling.

Take a look at the pictures below to see this amazing beauty trend.

The process of achieving amazing rainbow-colored hair...

Just got a whole lot easier for all the brunettes out there...

...thanks to the new "oil slick" hair trend.

The oil slick technique gives darker locks gorgeous, multi-colored hues...

...similar to the iridescent colors you would find floating on top of oil spills.

Aside from looking downright amazing...

...this new technique is also a lot less damaging to your 'do.

According to colorist Aura Friedman, oil slick hair is "great for people who naturally have dark hair and don't want to go through a major bleaching process."

Friedman said, "You don't have to lighten it so much to get it there, so your hair will be in better condition."

There are all sorts of ways you can get in on the oil slick action.

Whether you decide to add some shiny streaks to your hair...

Brighten up your braid with some cool colors...

Make your mane pop with some purples...

Or dip the ends of your 'do in a blue hue...

...your oil slick hair is guaranteed to look incredible.
