Raise Your Hand If 'High School Musical' Ruined New Year's Eve For You

by Katie Corvino
Disney-ABC Domestic Television

Guys, tomorrow is a big day. It's Thursday, December 31, and you know what that means.

Many people know this date as "New Year's Eve," but the special souls out there also know it as the "Start Of Something New."

That's right, it's the anniversary of the day Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez from "High School Musical" first fell in love.

Let me take you back. It's the year 2006. You're in middle school, your hair is greasy and your braces are blue.

You're watching Disney Channel when suddenly Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens appear on the TV screen in front of you. In that moment, your life changed forever.

OK, technically the show aired on January 20, 2006, but whatever. We know the magic really happened on New Year's Eve. Remember?!

The couple meet during winter break at a ski lodge, and from the pressure of friends and family, they end up doing karaoke together. Just press play, close your eyes and listen.

"Living in my own world... didn't understand..."

Well, single and lonely romantics of the world, you aren't alone right now. Raise your hand if you haven't had a New Year's Eve even come close to Troy and Gabriella's experience.

It looks like this person feels you. She understands your pain.

This person is hopeful, though; she still believes it could happen. One day.

"High School Musical" just set our expectations too high. We've had our dreams crushed since 2006.

TROY, ARE YOU OUT THERE? IT'S ME, GABRIELLA.

Will 2016 be the year we find our New Year's karaoke lover?

WILL IT?!?!?!?!

It better f*cking be.

Happy New Year, folks. I hope you all find the Troy Bolton of your dreams (or at least get to make out with some top-shelf alcohol.)

No, seriously.
