This Insane Fan Theory Just Changed 'The Simpsons' Forever

by Adam Pliskin

Reddit is a treasure trove of crazy pop culture theories.

Today, we unearthed a pretty great "Simpsons" one we'd like to share with you.

This theory was posited by Redditor Hardtopickaname, and it begins with the 1992 episode "Homer the Heretic."

In the episode, Homer asks God what the meaning of life is.

God says Homer will find out the meaning soon enough when dies, which will be in six months.

Six months later, another episode aired in which Homer was crushed by a vending machine and put in a coma.

That episode ends with Homer waking up and, as shown in a POV shot, choking Bart. However, according to this Redditor, that transition seemed too abrupt and unrealistic.

From that point on, the episodes of "The Simpsons" took on a zanier tone. In one episode, Homer went to space. In another, Mr. Burns captured the Loch Ness Monster.

Therefore, the theory is that Homer never got out of his coma and all the following episodes were just part of his subconscious.

That's why the kids never age. That's why so many celebrities happen to show up in Springfield. And that's why some of the plots of the episodes are so ridiculous.

Homer has been a vegetable for more than 20 years, according to the theory.

Of course, this is just one fan's theory, but it's a damn good one, if I do say so myself. You can read the whole thing here.
