Sam Smith Shared His New Bond Theme Song And Some People Aren't Happy

by Taylor Ortega

Sam Smith's anxiously anticipated Bond theme, “Writing's On The Wall,” for the upcoming Bond film "Spectre" dropped on UK radio early Friday morning, and it's now available on iTunes and Spotify.

The song follows in the footsteps of Adele's award-winning Bond theme, “Skyfall,” though Smith's new effort with Disclosure breaks away by bringing some of the 23-year-old's signature falsetto to what is an otherwise brooding tune.

Though the singer originally denied he was slated as the newest Bond theme-r, he announced in early September via Instagram he was indeed the chosen one.

He wrote,

This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations.  I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.

Plenty of fans pre-ordered the single, and the singer thanked them by posting a teaser to Instagram.

Mere hours after the song's release, fans took to Twitter to praise Smith's work.

But, as always, haters gonna hate.

Regardless, Smith expressed his gratitude for the immediate support from fans who loved the track.

Smith is the first British, male, solo artist in 50 years to be bestowed this honor.
