Ed Sheeran Wrote 'Thinking Out Loud' To Help A Friend Pay Her Mortgage

by Taylor Ortega

As far as childhood friends go, Ed Sheeran is a decent one to keep in touch with as time passes.

In a recent interview with Mirror, the singer-songwriter revealed his monster hit single “Thinking Out Loud” was a collaborative effort between him and old friend Amy Wadge aimed at helping her out of a tight financial spot.

He recalled,

She was going through financial troubles about a year ago. She drove to my house -- my album was nearly done -- and she asked if I could put a song from when I was 17 on the deluxe album, so she could get a little bit of money and pay the mortgage and bills and stuff.

Instead, the pair penned "Thinking Out Loud" on the spot, and the song went on to sell over one million copies in the UK alone and appear on the 24-year-old's album x.

Of the encounter, Sheeran claimed,

Now she never has to worry about money again... She's got a family and two kids… It wouldn't have happened if she hadn't come down from Wales to see me.

On Sunday night, Sheeran cohosted the MTV EMAs with actress Ruby Rose where he won two awards, one for Best Live Act and the other for Best World Stage Performance.
