Chloë Grace Moretz Lands Role Of A Lifetime As Ariel In 'Little Mermaid'

by Stacey Leasca

Because everything old is new again, Universal has decided to remake yet another classic, "The Little Mermaid."

Actress Chloë Grace Moretz will play the title character of Ariel, Variety reports.

Although not much is known about the project just yet, it will reportedly still revolve around the underwater adventures of Ariel after she saves Prince Eric from drowning. Beyond that, there's no telling how this live-action version of the Hans Christian Andersen classic will play out.

While the film apparently has a lead actress, it has yet to find a director. Sofia Coppola was signed on for the project, but dropped out over "creative differences," Mashable reports.

The film will have some stiff live-action competition. Disney's live-action version of "Beauty and the Beast," starring Emma Watson, is already in production, while "Aladdin," "The Jungle Book" and "Mulan" are all slated to get the live-action treatment as well.
