Robert De Niro Got Brutally Honest With Grads, Said 'You're F*cked'

by Adam Pliskin

Robert De Niro gave the commencement speech to this year's graduates of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, and he didn't hold anything back.

De Niro told the art students the real world is tough and full of rejection. But, that's putting it mildly.

What he actually said was,

Tisch graduates, you made it. And, you're f*cked.

Well, at least no one will ever accuse De Niro of mincing words.

He went on to say,

When it comes to the arts, passion should always trump commonsense. You weren't just following dreams, you were reaching for your destiny. You're a dancer, a singer, a choreographer, musician, a filmmaker, a writer, a photographer, a director, a producer, an actor, an artist. Yeah, you're f*cked.

De Niro's speech is more than just funny and blunt. It offers some solid advice for being an artist in the modern world. Check it out up top.
