Despite talk of Rob Kardashian's return to reclusion on Sunday's mid-season finale of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” the reality star insists his relationship with Blac Chyna has given him all the strength he needs to step back into the public eye.

Rob's 100-pound weight gain and speculated drug abuse kept him distant from his support system for two years, but his friendship and eventual engagement to Chyna pulled him out of a dark place where even his family couldn't reach him.

Rob told PEOPLE,

I've been friends with Chyna for a long time. She was someone I reached out to for advice. She would cook for me and we'd just talk. She's surrounded me with a lot of positivity. From the moment we met, I knew I wanted to be more than friends.

Chyna claimed she “never wanted to change him,” but she certainly “saw Rob was willing to better himself.”

Now, the couple is planning a wedding, a reality series and expecting their first child while Rob reenters the spotlight.

At every juncture, the 29-year-old has leaned on his fiancée for support.

He shared,

Chyna definitely motivates me. Being with her got me over the insecurity of being out in public.

With “Rob & Chyna” premiering September 11, Rob is focused on staying in a place of positivity and practicing a little self-love.

He added,

We just want to live our lives the way we want to. There were definitely dark days for me, and I'm still not fully happy looking at myself in the mirror. But I'm working towards that. And I'm happy.

At last.
