Kanye West Gave An Extremely Honest And Powerful Graduation Speech (Video)

Mr. West is in the building.

After teaching a fashion course last September, Kanye West returned to deliver a speech at the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College commencement ceremony, and it was possibly one of the most insightful graduation speeches of all time.

Addressing the graduating seniors, West said,

I have always had to fight to be accepted. Even as a successful musician, in order to make the transition [to designer] it was really all but impossible. When kids tell their parents that they want to be a fashion designer, it's not usually met with the same response as the traditionally held career choices. When you're the absolute best you get hated on the most. Never stop fighting. No matter what anyone says. No matter how they try to compromise you, compromise your vision. If it's in your gut, if it's in your soul, there's no worldly possession that should come between you and your expression.

Using his experience in the industry, Kanye offered the fashion graduates honest advice -- none of that “this is the beginning of the rest of your life” bullsh*t -- and effectively proved that behind his sometimes off-putting facade, he is a true artist and a true genius.

These students are so lucky to have learned from him; we could all benefit from his teachings.
