What To Do When You Find Yourself In Love With Your Best Friend

by Kylie Kennedy

Love is infatuating in and of itself.

Have you ever been completely smitten by someone? Is that person somebody you consider to be a very good friend? Your best friend even?

This goes out to those who know exactly what they want and who they want to be with, but haven't quite had the chance to give it a go with that particular person.

So close, yet so far… literally.

I'm not talking about the platonic-type friendship where you two vent to each other about life, go see a movie and binge on McDonald's together.

I'm talking about the friend who never talks about his girl problems and you refrain from speaking about your guy problems because when you're together, those things don't matter.

When you're with that person, there isn't a worry in the world.

Sexual tension could also be lingering between the two of you, and even mentioning another girl or guy would just kill that tension you secretly admire.

Do you ever feel like you just want to jump his bones, but hold back heavily because the worry of possibly losing him forever begins to flood your thoughts?

Maybe you guys were super drunk one night (because doing anything together is always a thrill), and all of sudden, in came the sexual tension.

“Kiss me,” she said, and it was all over from there. Whatever happened that night happened, and the two of you never brought it up again.

Drunk words are sober thoughts; drunk actions are sober wishes. A little bit of liquid courage never hurt; sometimes it softens the heart.

The way I see it, there are two kinds of love. First, there's the love you have for family and very close friends-- unconditional, selfless, honest, pure, eternal and beautiful love. The kind of love that is comforting and warm.

Secondly, there's the love you have for the one you're madly in love with or the one you haven't met yet. This love is everything and more you've ever wanted.

Not only is your love for this person like family love, but it's also passionate, romantic, wild, understanding, spontaneous, caring, genuine, mystical, eclectic, vulnerable and everlasting.

It's the kind of love that makes your stomach drop, just like a rollercoaster. This love keeps you wondering what's next: What are we going to discover together?

Low key, you long for the day you get to see this person again, but have absolutely no clue when that day will be.

Do you often find yourself wishing you could relive the moments you've shared together?

If so, you undoubtedly know there's a reason this person has crept into your life. He or she was put in your path to teach you a thing or two, so find out what it is.

Little do you know, there's a possibility this person feels the same way, but is too afraid to say anything because he or she is scared to be too vulnerable.

If you don't speak up, who will? You can't predict whether this person will or not. It will drive you nuts waiting to hear something from him or her, when it may not even be a mutual feeling.

YOU are the only one with control over YOU and control over how you want to break the news to this person. It's time to let it out.

From this moment on, don't hold it in anymore. Don't hold back. Don't look back. Move forward. Get it out there. Let it be known. It will slowly eat away at you the longer you hold it in because you will forever wonder, "What if?"

Some of you might be thinking, “Well how the hell am I going to get it off my chest?” You get sweaty palms every time you pull out your phone to work up a text, and it just terrifies you.

But don't be scared. Don't be scared of anything in life. If it doesn't work out, then it doesn't work out. Move on and discover things on your own.

There's no better drug than finding the path less traveled amidst yourself. Do yourself a favor and learn from the best teacher there is: you.

On the other hand, maybe you and this person fall in love, and the life you had always imagined begins to unfold right in front of your eyes.

Whatever the case may be, do it for you. Speak up for your own peace of mind.

If you believe in fate, "The One" will come into your life when you least expect it, and it will be the most exciting turning point.

It will be an extraordinary experience that'll make you want to stop the clock or rewind the clock, just so you can live in that moment once more.

Every day will turn into an adventure because, at last, you'll finally be with your life partner, your lover, your best friend, your partner in crime, your soul mate and muse all in one.

Sounds like a dream, right?

Trust your gut; trust your head, and, more importantly, trust your heart.

You'll never know the power of your thoughts and words until you embrace the chance of heartache and become completely vulnerable. Light the fire and watch it explode.

Remember, turn every situation into a positive situation, no matter how it started or how it ended.
