7 Feelings You Experience With Someone Who Understands You

by Celeena Sayani

Dating, for me, has always been a little bit wearing.

My past relationships required too much effort (from both sides), and I never felt like I could be myself. I don’t think anyone was at fault; I wasn’t right for the men I’ve dated, and they weren’t right for me.

Maybe I’m naïve to think relationships are supposed to be easy, but I’ve always yearned for something a little more natural.

I’ve only recently experienced how it feels to be with someone who understands me. He appreciates my quirkiness, my short attention span and my outlook on life.

He doesn’t mind that I ask too many questions, and he doesn’t judge me for not having my life figured out yet.

It feels nice being around him because he makes me feel interesting. He notices the little things nobody has ever noticed. He knows how I take my coffee, and that I bite my fingers when I’m nervous.

But, he also challenges me on my writing, and he is never afraid to give his honest opinion. He treats me how I want to be treated.

There’s no pressure or stress, only a natural sense of comfort and a real appreciation for each other.

I’m not sure where things will go, but I’m okay with not having it figured out.

For the first time in a long time, I’m not thinking about the future because I’m so focused on what’s happening right now. I’m enthralled with getting to know him and enjoying our time together.

What I do know is it’s a comforting feeling when you meet someone, and things just click. Everyone deserves to experience this. It really is a special thing.

When you meet someone who finally gets you, it’s likely you’ll know right away. Maybe it’s his welcoming eyes, or the uncanny similarities you begin to notice as you get to know each other.

No matter what it is, here are the things you experience when you find your person:

1. It’s electric.

It sounds clichéd, but it really is the best way to describe it. It’s more than chemistry; this electricity will capture your full attention.

You’ll be so strongly drawn to him that when you’re together, nothing else matters. You will thrive off each other’s energy.

There will, of course, be an undeniable physical attraction; this is part of what drew you to him in the first place. But, you’ll soon realize it’s much more than just physical.

You’ll find yourself attracted to his character. He'll make you feel good both physically and mentally.

2. It’s effortless.

You won’t need to put on a show to impress him because he’ll appreciate the real you.

Things you used to worry about will no longer be problems, and it’ll be refreshing to not be consumed by unnecessary details. There’s no judgment from either side.

Your relationship will come naturally, and the walls you once built after getting hurt so many times, the ones you thought were indestructible, will start to crumble.

3. It’s simple.

The absence of words is just fine when you’re with him. You’ll learn that silence can bring two people closer together, and you'll realize how peaceful it is not to have the pressure to fill every moment with words.

4. It’s also complex.

It’s complex in the sense that it’s hard to explain your connection to an outsider. It’s intense and peaceful, intimate and playful all at the same time.

5. It’s a little bit frightening.

You’ll share things with him that you never thought you would share with anyone, and thoughts you never thought you could express aloud.

You will feel vulnerable, but for some reason, it won’t stop you from opening up to him.

6. It’s familiar.

You’ll enjoy your time apart, but being around him is calming. When you’re with him, you’ll feel protected from everything bad in the world.

You’ll feel like you’re exactly where you should be.

7. It’s worth waiting for.

You’ll finally feel you don’t have to explain why you are the way you are. You won’t have to pretend or justify your actions anymore.

When you find someone who understands you, you’ll soon realize he’ll help you better understand yourself.

He’ll teach you so much. He’ll teach you that relationships are challenging at times, but they should never be emotionally draining. He’ll teach you that no matter what the circumstances are, you should never settle.

He’ll teach you that your uniqueness is what makes you attractive, and there is someone in this world who understands you.

And being understood is truly the greatest gift he could ever give you.
