Olivia Rodrigo Is The Queen Of Y2K Fashion's Comeback

Getting major déjà vu.

Gen Z’s It Girl Olivia Rodrigo is decidedly a sign of the times in more ways than just her music. It’s safe to say her influence has easily infiltrated the fashion world. Like many other Gen Zers, that means a lot of nods to Y2K fashion. While Y2K trends have slowly been creeping back, Rodrigo’s meteoric rise and notably ‘00s-inspired outfits have seemingly accelerated Y2K’s renaissance further. As you continue to bop to her first studio album SOUR, peep Rodrigo’s best Y2K outfits.

Rodrigo really channeled Cher from Clueless with this matching plaid, tweed Chanel suit set. It’s retro, playful, and young while still being 100% White House-appropriate.

I could easily picture this metallic ‘fit from Rodrigo’s “brutal” music video making an appearance in a Danity Kane or Destiny Child’s music video.

It doesn’t get much more Y2K than baby top with graphic text and a grunge-y pleated skirt. The edgy black-and-metal belt is just the cherry on top.

The singer took 2000s punk and ran with it for this look. Her plaid, pleated skirt and matching corset with a distressed T-shirt over it is enough to sell the Y2K fashion vibe, but of course, the 18-year-old took it a few steps further with clips loaded up by her pigtails and a scrunchie — a nostalgic, just-left-Claire’s touch.

Another of Rodrigo’s best Y2K outfits is this lacy, cherry-printed slip dress. Once again, she really upped the ante by filling her head with hair ties for a hairdo that puts Lily Moscovitz from Princess Diaries to shame.

Although fans didn’t get a full-body look for this ‘fit, the grunge influence is clear in the “good 4 u” singer’s wardrobe. The oversize camo flannel, Dr. Martens, and black pants make it hard to believe she’s writing pop music and not that Seattle sound.

At this point, I think it’s fair to say Rodrigo’s favorite print is plaid. She wore it again during her SNL performance, this time, however, in yellow and purple.

A mesh, psychedelic shirt; chunky, black heeled boots; and a mini skirt? It seriously doesn’t get more early ‘00s than this. The fact that Rodrigo just wore this outfit on a day trip really shows that Y2K fashion is more than just clothes you put on; it’s a lifestyle.
