On Wednesday, Dec. 1, Shawn Mendes released an emotional new single called “It’ll Be Okay.” After hearing it, fans instantly became convinced it references his split with Camila Cabello since the lyrics are all about heartbreak. Here, some examples.

Mendes’ “It’ll Be Okay” is all about the end of a relationship, so you can’t blame fans for thinking he was inspired by his personal life. He starts the track by singing, “Are we gonna make it? Is this gonna hurt? Oh, we can try to sedate it, but that never works.”

He then sings that it’ll be hard to move on from that other person, but he knows it’s for the best. “I start to imagine a world where we don't collide / It's making me sick but we'll heal and the sun will rise,” he croons during the pre-chorus.

If you’re not crying already, this next line will have you in a puddle of tears: “If you tell me you're leaving, I'll make it easy / It'll be OK.”

During the chorus, Mendes seems to tell his S.O. that maybe they should go their separate ways. “If we can't stop the bleeding, we don't have to fix it, we don't have to stay,” he sings.

Whether they choose to break up or not, Mendes reassures his partner, “I will love you either way / Oh, it'll be oh, be OK.”

In the second verse, Mendes mourns over what could have been. “Oh, the future we dreamed of is fading to black / Oh, thеre's nothing more painful / Nothing more painful,” he sings. The lyrics are all too relatable for anyone who has experienced loss.

During the song’s bridge, Mendes once again tells his partner that he’ll always care about them. Although their split will hurt, it’s what’s best for them. “I will love you either way/ It might be so sweet/ It might be so bitter,” he sings.
