Only Murders In The Building premiered in 2021 as a surprise hit. The weekly series became Hulu’s biggest comedy whodunit, so Season 2’s renewal came as no shock. Now, with a new mystery around the corner, here’s a character-specific Only Murders In The Building Season 1 recap.

Oliver Putnam

The washed-up Broadway director initially suggested the podcast with fellow residents Charles and Mabel to solve Tim Kono's passing. Unemployed, estranged from his son, and desperate for one more break, he was the driver to make the podcast succeed.

Charles-Haden Savage

The former lead of the mystery series Brazzos, Charles was still recovering from his ex, Emma, leaving him and taking away Lucy, who he considered a daughter. Kono’s murder sparked a relationship for Charles with a fellow Arconia resident and music lover, Jan.

Mabel Mora

The niece of a resident, Mabel spent her summers at the Arconia with BFFs with Tim, Zoe, and Oscar. Their friendship ended when Zoe was murdered, Oscar took the fall, and Tim let it happen. Mabel was determined to solve Tim's case.

Tim Kono

The victim of Season 1, Tim was secretly trying to get justice for Zoe, tracking down black market jewelry kingpin “Angel,” who was involved with her demise. He was also having an affair with fellow resident Jan.

Detective Williams

The cop assigned Kono’s case first ruled it a suicide and was angry at the podcast for challenging her. But when Williams started listening and realized they were onto something, she began slipping them evidence to solve the case.

Hulu

Cinda Canning

A podcaster whose hit true crime stories first brought the trio together, Cinda saw these upstarts as rivals and made a podcast determined to expose them as the primary suspects in the season finale murder.

The Arconia Residents

Building manager Ursula and residents Uma, Ndidi, and Dr. Stanley are quickly discarded as suspects. Ursula peddled Gut Milk. Stanley angled for patients; Ndidi for Tim's apartment. Nevertheless, none are fans of the podcasting trio and vote to evict them.

The Arconia Suspects

The suspects in the building were Howard, whose cat Evelyn was more mourned than Tim, and rocker Sting, who fired Tim for money mismanagement. Both were cleared from suspicion by Season 1’s end.

Oscar Torres

The building super’s kid and former friend of Tim and Mabel was released from jail just before Tim’s passing. He was the main suspect Charles called Tie-Dye Guy. Once he contacted Mabel and proved his innocence, he started helping them investigate.

Teddy & Theo Dimas

Teddy was Oliver’s former producer who funded the podcast. He was also the jewelry dealing “Angel.” It turns out his son, Theo, accidentally pushed Zoe off the roof all those years ago and Teddy covered it up. Yet they were cleared of any wrongdoing.

Jan

The bassoonist who seduced Charles seemed harmless at first. But her pointing the group in the false direction toward the Dimases, the faked note threatening her, and the realization she was Tim’s ex added up to one answer: Jan murdered Tim.

Bunny Folger

Jan did in Tim, but there were still problems. Bunny, the Arconia board president, got the residents to vote to evict them. However, she then caused another, more pressing issue: She was murdered, and the three podcasters were arrested on suspicion of doing it.
