Lea Michele is set to join the Broadway revival of Funny Girl as Fanny Brice. On July 11, the musical announced that Beanie Feldstein would exit the role on July 31 with her standby Julie Benko taking over through Sept. 4 before Michele joins on Sept. 6.

The announcement that Michele would eventually take over the role that Feldstein originated in the revival elicited strong reactions online.

Actor Samantha Marie Ware, who called out Michele on Twitter in June 2020, seemingly tweeted in response to the Funny Girl casting on July 11. Representatives for both Ware and Michele did not immediately return Elite Daily’s request for comment regarding Ware’s July 11 tweet.

Life really does imitate art. In Glee, Michele’s character Rachel Berry dreamed of landing the lead role in Funny Girl, and this eventually came true in Season 4.

The Funny Girl and Glee connections don’t stop with Michele. Jane Lynch, who starred on Glee, is currently playing Mrs. Brice in the musical.

On July 11, it was also announced that Lynch will depart the show on Sept. 4, which is two days before Michele joins.

All this to say that some Glee fans are in a frenzy over Michele’s casting announcement. It’s like living in this It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia meme.
