So many celebs pulled a Kylie Jenner and wore a wedding dress to the Met Gala last night. But, while the makeup mogul’s look was far from on theme last year, the celebs who donned bridal couture at Met Gala 2023 perfectly encapsulated this year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”
The fashion designer, who died in 2019, headed Chanel for more than three decades, and routinely concluded his couture shows with a supermodel “bride,” including Claudia Schiffer (below) and Kendall Jenner. With such an extensive archive to pull from, it’s no wonder some stars were inspired to enter their bridal era on fashion’s biggest night.

Dua, who co-chaired this year’s Met Gala, did not disappoint in her 1992 Chanel tweed wedding gown, originally worn by Schiffer. The basque waist, neckline, and hem were accented with a woven black trim, while the fitted bodice contrasted against the full skirt emphasized her figure.

RiRi arrived fashionably late, but it was well worth it. Her custom Valentino hooded gown was covered in rose decals, and the extra-long train added a flair of drama. The singer also paid homage to Lagerfeld with white fingerless gloves, his signature style.

The Little Mermaid actor stunned in a floral sequined dress and ruffled cape that served total mermaidcore vibes. The look was a more contemporary take on the bridal trend, with a little more glitz and glamour than the traditional tulle.

The Great star’s black jacket and daisy flower crown was a tribute to Lagerfeld’s book Little Black Jacket, which she was featured in at age 13. Her lace Vivienne Westwood gown gave major bridal vibes, complete with a bouquet.

Miranda Priestly is quaking. Hathaway brought the glamour in a white tweed Versace gown (plus opera gloves) with sensual slits and cutouts pieced together with pearl and gold safety pin accents. The tweed is reminiscent of Lagerfeld’s countless Chanel looks, while the completed look nods to his bridal designs.

Maya Hawke told Vogue, “I have a feeling if I ever get married, it will be in white cotton pajamas, so we thought, ‘Why not put on a fancy white dress for once in your life?’” The Stranger Things star’s Prada look featured a white minidress with a matching, flowy cape covered in hundreds of mini floral embellishments.

The supermodel’s Met Gala look was a callback to a gown she’s worn before. While the glamorous sequined dress and feathered cape first appeared at the Channel spring 2007 couture show, Bündchen also wore it for an editorial shoot with Harper’s BAZAAR later that year.

Chung’s gauzy floral appliqué dress was unlike any other look seen on the red carpet that night. The look contrasted the frilly, voluminous top with a sleek, lacy skirt. The style star swapped out a veil for a bow-adorned headpiece that pulled the whole ensemble together.

Cruz, Chanel ambassador and co-chair for the 2023 Met Gala, turned heads in a bedazzled, pale blue ball gown covered in sequins, gemstones, and pearls. The gown included a built-in meshy hood trimmed with sequins. The actor’s look was a tribute to a design from Chanel’s 1988 collection.
