A performance by Lil Nas X is always iconic, but his show number at the 2022 Grammys was one for the ages. He whipped out emo-inspired costumes that reminded people all over the internet of My Chemical Romance’s Black Parade era, and Twitter was loving it.

Nas and his crew started the performance off draped in gorgeous black capes that sparkled in the spotlight. It was a lewk.

In the blink of an eye, Nas changed into a glimmering asymmetrical top with matching pants. I expected nothing less — his moves and his outfits are always coordinated.

For the performance’s finale, Nas and his crew pulled off yet another quick change into punk-style military drummer jackets — a huge throwback to My Chemical Romance’s Black Parade era. Emo side-bang Twitter was absolutely *freaking* out.

People on Twitter couldn’t help but point out the similarities between Lil Nas X’s black jacket and the ones sported by MCR back in 2006.

This speaks for itself.

The memories!

Who feels transported back to 2006 rn?

I can hear those opening notes now.

I can dream.

After seeing Lil Nas X’s performance, it’s clear Gerard Way’s influence has withstood the test of time. Thanks, My Chemical Romance — your memory will carry on.
