In the wise words of Beth, “The Pearson epitaph will read: Lovely people, cried a lot, dramatic as hell Thanksgivings.” For the This Is Us Season 6 Thanksgiving episode, the show made sure to pack in not one, but three holidays that fit the bill. Let’s run down all the drama.

When Rebecca and Jack hosted Thanksgiving 1975 for her parents, Rebecca’s nerves were on edge, with memories of her childhood Thanksgivings filled with body-shaming and terror of Janet’s judging gaze.

At Thanksgiving 2000, Rebecca hosted her kids, her new BF Matthew, Miguel, and Miguel’s girlfriend Marguerite. Sparks flew as neither Rebecca nor Miguel could control their jealousy over the other’s partner. By the time dinner was over, their mutual crush was evident to everyone.

In the present day, the Pearsons gathered at the cabin for Thanksgiving 2021, only to learn Rebecca had a big talk planned for after dinner. She also requested no devices, which Randall ignored, as he was desperate to record every moment while Rebecca was still well.

At the Thanksgiving 1975 dinner, all of Rebecca’s rage at her mother’s judgmental behavior came out. She ate dinner loudly and proudly, called out her mother’s decades of disordered eating, and announced she and Jack would not follow her parents’ wishes for their wedding.

At Thanksgiving 2000, Kevin’s filter came off. When he saw Miguel, he called the man out for crushing on Rebecca and declared Miguel a traitor to Jack’s memory.

As for Thanksgiving 2021, the cracks in Toby and Kate’s relationship resurfaced, as Toby freaked out over every bite of food Jack was offered until Kate finally called him out. After generations of bad messaging around food, she said Jack would not grow up that way.

After Rebecca’s explosion in the ‘70s, Jack talked to Janet and discovered Rebecca’s parents were moving cities and would soon be eight hours away. Despite promising to keep his mouth shut, he told Rebecca. The holiday ended with Rebecca and her mom tighter than ever.

Thanksgiving 2000, on the other hand, saw Rebecca lose her best friend. Miguel admitted his feelings for Rebecca, and in the next breath, he said he was leaving for Houston. Rebecca was left sobbing in Kate's arms, devastated at realizing how much she loved him, too late.

As for Thanksgiving 2021, Rebecca’s talk laid down the law on handling her disease. As her husband, Miguel was in charge, and her children would treat him with the respect he’d earned. Should Miguel not be around, Rebecca said she wanted Kate to take the lead.
