Girl, This Was A Mess
Omarion And Mario’s VERZUZ Battle Was, Um, Interesting

Hey, at least it was entertaining.

On June 23, VERZUZ returned with probably the most chaotic showdown in its brief history. Last night, R&B crooners Omarion and Mario headlined the musical event, and social media unanimously crowned Mario as the winner.

Helmed by the legendary Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, VERZUZ is a battle series where veteran R&B and Hip-Hop artists perform their greatest hits. Past headliners include Erykah Badu, Gucci Mane, Jill Scott, Brandy, Monica, and more.

Omarion began to fill his brief set with some interesting surprises. One of those surprises were background dancers, which is pretty much unheard of during a VERZUZ battle. Now, did that dancing addition help with his performance? I’ll let you be the judge.

For those that don’t know, Omarion and other members from his boy band B2K starred in a dance competition film called You Got Served. These days his dancing doesn’t receive the greatest rep. I hate that for him.

Remember I mentioned Omarion sprinkled in a couple surprises during his performance? Well, this was another one. While performing, he bought out half a watermelon and started eating it. I couldn’t make this up even if I tried.

Besides hitting a couple falsettos and swoon-worthy runs, Omarion wasn’t immune to Mario’s comments about his performance. The secondhand embarrassment was so real.

Literally, this summary of last night’s battle couldn’t be more spot on.

Oh, the shade. I mean, this user isn’t wrong in her observation. Mario’s vocal tone throughout the battle was gorgeous. I guess we know who’s going home in this round.

Mario’s microphone was definitely on during his multiple sets.

Though I absolutely agree, I was still living for this chaotic musical battle.

I definitely agree. Honestly, 14-year-old me would’ve been so heartbroken, amused, and confused while watching last night’s battle.
