After the untimely passing of Taylor Hawkins, the longtime drummer for the Foo Fighters, the band understandably canceled their tour and sat out the Grammys. But his spirit remains, as Billie Eilish wore a Hawkins shirt for her performance.

The music world was shocked when Taylor Hawkins passed suddenly in Bogotá, Colombia, on March 25, just as the Foo Fighters were preparing to perform at the Festival Estéro Picnic.

Devastated, the Foo Fighters canceled their remaining tour dates until further notice and sent their regrets to the Grammys.

However, the band swept the three categories they were nominated in. Their record-breaking sweep of the “Rock” categories included best rock album, best rock performance, and best rock song, all stemming from their latest album, Hawkins’ last, Medicine at Midnight.

The loss of Hawkins hasn’t just hit the Foo Fighters, but the music industry at large. Fans assumed his passing would at least be mentioned, but Eilish went one better, wearing a shirt printed with an image of the late musician.

Finneas then joined Billie for a rain-soaked performance of “Happier Than Ever.”

The two then rocked it out as hard as they could, in a performance both the Foos and Hawkins would have appreciated.

Eilish’s emotionally over the top performance mixed with the rain and the Hawkins T-shirt felt like a cathartic tribute to the late drummer.
